People Centered Design Research

This project focused on working with real people to identify a problem and craft a solution using the principles of Visual Communication Design, Interaction Design, and User Experience Design. Emphasis was placed on the design of a digital product or service experience that impacts or improves the lives of real people.

Design a people centered experience focused around digital media while utilizing the sum of your acquired skills in a final experience design-driven thesis project.

Voterly

Redesign the experience of voting
People Centered Design Research

Voterly was a group project focused on redesigning the experience of voting for down-ticket candidates from the perspective of college students. Tasks were based on the phases of the experience. Register to vote, understand what/who you are voting on, access/locate your polling place, and cast a ballot.

Once the current state of the experience was understood through research we identified our demographics primary goals. Each group member created a poster to share the new experience and a group experience map was created to show the entire experience.

Source

Near West Entrepreneurship Identity

Source is an entrepreneur center in the River West area of Indianapolis. River West consists of four neighborhoods. Haughville, Hawthorne, Stringtown, and We Care. Each neighborhood is unique and the team creating Source wanted the center to be seen as accessible by people of all River West residents.

Using design research methods, such as observation, interviews, brainstorming, and surveys we were able to create an appropriate brand identity for the people of River West.

Design customer journey map
People Centered Design Research

This was my first experience designing a customer journey map. We chose a shadowed a person having an experience then found opportunities to improve upon that experience.

Once the current state of the experience was understood through research we identified our demographics primary goals. Each group member created a poster to share the new experience and a group experience map was created to show the entire experience.

Hive

Design the interface for a new communication platform
People Centered Design Research

Design the interfaces for a new communication platform and collaborate with computer science students to make a minimum visual product. In our first step work was divided among the group for branding, front-end workflow and back-end workflow. Once a week we would meet with our developers to discuss design concepts.

Once workflows and branding were developed we were given random platforms to create the communication app on. We then created prototypes and conducted testing to evaluate the success of the design solution. The entire process was then compiled into an implementaion guide.

Beauty Even in Death

Create an installation with one material and two words
Creative Process

This project started out with a random selection of two words and one material. The concept for my first piece stemmed from my words and a memory of pinning bugs when I was in eight-grade. My words were “flutter” and “hurt” and my material was Styrofoam. The title that I decided on for this piece was “Beauty Even in Death”. After watching the documentary Swarm, I realized upon closer

inspection that the beautiful shots were of living butterflies and also wings from butterflies that had been eaten. This made me realize that butterflies are just as beautiful when they are dead as when they are alive. Even though the process of life and death is very sad and can be frightening, a person can still appreciate the beauty of the life that was once there.
