Beauty Even in Death

Create an installation with one material and two words

This project started out with a random selection of two words and one material. The concept for my first piece stemmed from my words and a memory of pinning bugs when I was in eight-grade. My words were “flutter” and “hurt” and my material was Styrofoam. The title that I decided on for this piece was “Beauty Even in Death”. After watching the documentary Swarm, I realized upon closer inspection that the beautiful shots were of living butterflies and also wings from butterflies that had been eaten. This made me realize that butterflies are just as beautiful when they are dead as when they are alive. Even though the process of life and death is very sad and can be frightening, a person can still appreciate the beauty of the life that was once there.
